Dental Practice on the Hill was first established in 1988 by Stephen Stern. At its heart, it is a family orientated practice. We take pride in forming long-term relationships with our patients and fulfilling their oral health needs.
Meet the Team
Dentists

Stephen qualified at the University of Witswatersrand in South Africa in 1981 and has been working in the UK since 1983. He started Dental Practice on the Hill in 1988 and developed it into a 4 surgery preventive family practice.
Stephen is a superb clinician, with a relaxed professional and friendly approach to patient care. He is meticulous in the care that he provides and has a reputation for the highest standard of professional care. His particular interests are cosmetic, aesthetic and implant dentistry, but at heart he has always been a family practitioner. Stephen prides himself on keeping up to date with trends in the profession, coupled with using cutting edge technology.
His outside interests are many including cycling for charity, hiking in England, street and landscape photography, music and the arts.

Mike is a highly experienced dentist who graduated at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1987. He has provided dental care in London since the early 1990s.
Mike is focused on building trust and confidence in his patients, and looking after them in a gentle and caring manner. He is particularly interested in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, and is a keen attendee of continuing education courses so as to provide his patients with the most current treatment choices and techniques.
Outside of work, Mike is a family man who enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys. His hobbies include running (slowly), reading and travelling to see his family in South Africa.

Neel qualified from Guy’s Hospital, London in 2004 with distinction. He undertook further training at Birmingham Dental Hospital as well as Kings and Guy’s Dental Hospitals and he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons England in 2006.
Neel joined the team at Dental Practice on the Hill in 2007 and has developed a reputation as being an approachable and caring dentist with the primary aim of putting the patient’s interests first. Neel has worked with leading clinicians in the field of restorative dentistry and this along with his own experience allows him to offer his patients treatment options based on best clinical practice.
Dentistry is a constantly evolving profession and Neel strives to keep himself updated with the latest clinical techniques with a strong emphasis on preventative dentistry. More recently, Neel completed a postgraduate course in Dental Law and Ethics at the University of Bedfordshire.
Outside of dentistry, Neel enjoys travelling, socialising, keeping fit and most of all, spending time with his wife and daughter.
Hygienists

Roush qualified as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist in 2008 and since then, has been looking after our patients’ oral hygiene.
She is an excellent clinician with a reputation for being thorough and compassionate. Roush is constantly upgrading her skills and knowledge. Her patients value the advice and care she provides them.
Outside of work she enjoys music, travelling and trying out new cultures and cuisines.

Leyla qualified as a Dentist in 2018 in Turkey. She has expanded her qualification as a Dental Therapist / Hygienist and is an integral part of our Team. She is empathetic and gentle in her approach to all her patients and keeps them well informed of how to improve and maintain their oral hygiene in a compassionate, relaxed manner. She has good sense of humour.
She has a passion for lifelong learning and is expanding her knowledge into digital dentistry while staying up to date with current CPD requirements.
Outside of work, she enjoy gardening, travelling and anything that connects her with nature and different cultures.
Dental Assistants

Bex started working in the practice in 2009 and gained her NVQ certificate in Dental Nursing in 2011. She works at the practice as a full time dental assistant with Mike MacManus.
She is fantastic with children and always makes them feel very welcome. Bex also enjoys working with our implant specialists on complex surgical cases. She is the Decontamination Lead, an extremely important role to maintain high standards in cross infection control.
Bex is very easy to get along with and always has a smile on her face. She is a great team player with excellent communication skills with both staff and patients.
Outside of work, Bex enjoys spending time with her many friends, going on long walks with her dog, Max and travelling to new places.

Romina qualified as a dental assistant in 2021 and has been working in general practice since that time. She joined our dental team in 2022 as Neel’s dental assistant and has become a valued and hard-working member of the practice.
She has a sunny and friendly personality with a particular interest in making nervous patients feel at ease with her gentle, reassuring manner.
In her spare time, Romina enjoys spending time with her family and visiting her relatives in Sardinia.

Doina joined the dental surgery in 2018, working as a dental nurse with Stephen Stern. She gained her NEBDN Nursing qualification in 2014 and is a fantastic asset to our practice.
Doina possesses many strengths such as being a hard-worker, a team player with a positive outlook on life. She is particularly good with younger patients who will benefit from her calm and gentle nature. Her approach to dental nursing is thorough with very high standards in all aspects of her work.
Outside of work, Doina enjoys family time with her husband and three children. She is a wonderful cook and is happy to share her recipes with us.

Jo has a long association with our practice having first worked with us over twenty years ago, initially as a dental nurse and then taking on the role of Practice Manager. After raising a family, Jo worked in a nursery school for many years.
We are delighted that she has returned to work at Dental Practice on the Hill as Compliance Manager. Her happy, cheerful and positive outlook makes her the valued member of the team.
She is very popular with our patients due to her warmth, empathy and sense of humour. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling abroad with her family.
Reception Staff

Jo started her career in dental nursing in 1988 at our practice and was Stephen’s first dental nurse. She left to have her family and now that her children are older, she has returned on a part-time basis as a receptionist and dental assistant.
Jo has excellent organisational skills and she oversees clinical governance requirements for the practice. Her cheerful and friendly manner helps put even the most nervous of patients at ease
In Jo’s spare time, she enjoys socialising and participating in fun activities.

Nic has been a valued member of our team for over twenty years and brings a blend of efficiency and kindness to the practice.
Nic has lived in Enfield all her life and knows many of our patients outside of the practice. Nic has worked with many dentists over the years and has learnt a variety of different skills from each.
Outside of the practice, she enjoys spending time with her daughters as well as her two other passions: shopping and cake.

Sam joined the practice in 2010. She is friendly and caring and her infectious laughter puts even our most nervous patients at ease.
Her organisational and administrative abilities have helped with practice policies and procedures. She is currently undertaking further post-qualification training.
In her spare time, Sam enjoys running, swimming and spending time with family and friends. She is fluent in German and loves to travel across Europe.

Wenna has been a receptionist at Dental Practice on the Hill since 1998. She has known many of the patients for years and this makes them feel comfortable when visiting our practice. She is friendly, polite, compassionate and is a good listener.
In Wenna’s spare time she enjoys spending time with her children going on bike rides, baking and picnics.
Implantologists

Dr. van Jaarsveld fulfils the role of diagnosing and treating diseases of the gums and supporting tissues. With Dr. van Jaarsvelds’ vast experience in the placing of Dental Implants, you are sure to be in the hands of an expert.
He qualified with his undergraduate degree from the University of Pretoria in 1979 and went on to complete his post graduate degree (with honours) in Oral Medicine and Periodontics in 1985 at the same university.
Since 1985 he was in private practice in Pretoria and at the same time lectured part time at the University of Pretoria. Since 1996 he has worked in the UK and Tanzania as a Specialist in Periodontics. In 2005 he was appointed Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has lectured all over the world on Periodontal topics and has been the external examiner to the University of the Witwatersrand from 2001 to 2006.
Hennie is registered as a Specialist Periodontist with the General Dental Council.
